Welcome back everyone to part two of Millennium Snow! A short tale of the odd relationship between a vampire named Toya and a human girl named Chiyuki, along with a werewolf by the name of Satsuki and a bat named Yami. Check out part one here to get the story so far: Millennium Snow Finally, the story gets interesting in volume two! I prefer this volume out of the two. Now let's get to the story!
Millennium Snow 2
Bisco Hatori
Volume two begins with Chiyuki, Toya, Yami and Satsuki, lost, in the middle of the Alps. How are they in the middle of the Alps you may ask, well...Satsuki's grandmother won a prize of a ski trip and he invited Chiyuki to come with him. Toya tags along. As they continued walking, the group discovers an abandoned mansion. As they enter, Chiyuki's heart reacts and she only pushes it aside thinking she it was only her imagination. A panel reveals a mysterious character. Everyone decides to explore the empty mansion. Eventually Satsuki finds the kitchen and makes everyone dinner. Chiyuki points out about how the kitchen has plenty of food and all the rooms are clean.
Satsuki takes Chiyuki to bed, while Toya stays behind. He thinks about his true feelings for Chiyuki, only to "convince" himself that he can never be with her. Yami appears and asks why Toya can't be true to his feelings. Toya only ends the conversation by not giving an answer. When Satsuki takes Chiyuki to bed, he makes a move on her saying the situation that they're in "turns him on". She tries to stop him. Satsuki says that he fell in love with her and asks for a kiss. While Satsuki get's closer to Chiyuki, you see Toya in the doorway. But there is something different about him...
As Satsuki advances on Chiyuki, "Toya" stops him. The "Toya" reveals that he is really Yami. The real Toya arrives wondering what's going on. Toya disapproves the form and yells at Yami and he turns into a younger version of Toya. He explains to everyone that he can transform into these forms, but only for a short period of time.
Satsuki takes Yami to do the dishes leaving Toya and Chiyuki alone. There's an awkward silence before Toya pushes Chiyuki away telling her to go back to bed. Just as she leaves, she is stopped by Toya; he suddenly asks if anything happened between herself and Satsuki...but stops mid sentence. Chiyuki asks what he was going to ask, but only have Toya, embarrassed about being caught, pushes her away. As she walks back to her room, her heart starts to act up. A girl watches over Chiyuki.
Yami starts to notice the strange occurrences with the mansion, which he points out about the food. He asks Satsuki about the food he used to cook with and Yami reveals some rotten food to him. Instantaneously, the food gets better. As the two pondered in the kitchen, Toya was arguing with himself about why he asked her that question earlier.
While he was in the room, he discovers a journal. It's the journal of the past owners of the mansion. An entree explains about the daughter, named Isabella, who passed away. The girl appears to Toya yelling at Toya to get out and used her powers to throw furniture. Yami finds Toya and tells him about the strange occurrence. Toya explains that he has a bad feeling and tells Yami to investigate.
The next morning as Satsuki and Toya ate breakfast, Satsuki asks Toya about his true feelings. He gets mad because of Toya's "uncaring" attitude. As they talked, Chiyuki falls. Satsuki and Yami decide to leave to get a doctor. While they leave, Yami is trying to explain about his discovery about the mansion. That discovery is...
The time has stopped in and around the mansion. Everything has remained the same for two hundred years.
Chiyuki is back in bed, with Toya watching over her. This scene gets gushy. She tells Toya that she never wants to leave him. Toya suddenly kisses her. Toya doesn't seem himself and kisses her again, leaning in closer to Chiyuki's neck. The chapter ends with some blood shed.
Chiyuki stops Toya by slapping him. He's back his own self asking why she slapped him. He sees the cut on her neck and realizes that he tried to bite her. Yami and Satsuki burst into the room with their suspicions about the mansion. Satsuki notices the cut and attacks Toya. The only thing Toya says is "kill me".
The girl appears, asking why he doesn't stop time. "Or shall I do it for you", she says before tossing furniture towards Chiyuki. Satsuki protects her from the impact. Yami explains about the time in the mansion has stopped for 200 years and by their presence, they brought the present time, meaning it's throwing off the balance of time within the mansion. The girl goes to Toya and says about how she helped, but he missed his opportunity to bite Chiyuki. She possessed Toya to motivate to "end Chiyuki's time". Toya gets furious about this and attacks the girl. She explains that she only helped Toya to bite, that in his heart he truly wanted to do this deed. He refuses to listen and yells. Chiyuki gets weak and the girl says "I'd watch my heart if I were you.""Why are you doing this? Isabel?" Yami says.
He continues to explain that Isabel died from heart disease. Millennium Snow explains the back story about Isabel and her heart disease. They believe that the time change is affecting Chiyuki's heart. Isabel is furious about the group tampering with the time. Toya starts to destroy the mansion in hopes to restore the time. Isabel begs for Toya to stop. He asks why she prefers to live alone. The reason for time to be frozen was because Isabel wants to keep the time where she was happy. Isabel believes she was forgotten, but then realizes she was never forgotten. Isabel's parents appear and she goes with them. Time returns to normal and the Chiyuki, Yami, Toya and Satsuki leave the mansion.
The eighth snow begins with Satsuki challenging Toya at a game of basketball. The basketball feud continues till a basketball hits Chiyuki in the face. While everyone was in the nurse's room, a man appears, calling Chiyuki's name. The man is Kei a cousin who took care of Chiyuki when she was young. He has returned from America. Kei overacts about the bruise and the earlier trip to Switzerland. Chiyuki introduces Kei to Toya and Satsuki, but he doesn't say anything to them. He tells Chiyuki that he's taking her to the hospital. Overprotective, much? From him begging her, she decides she'll go with him. She leaves to get ready leaving the guys behind. Kei suddenly asks if they're the ones that took Chiyuki on the trip and asks how they know her. Eventually he calls them insensitive and told them to stay away from her.
Kei and Chiyuki are at Kei's home. He asks Chiyuki about the guys, wondering if she is forcing herself to be friends with them. She tells him that they're important to her. The next day, Chiyuki finds Toya hiding behind a bush. She explains more of Kei's story. As the moment gets cute between the two, Creeper Kei appears to ruin the moment. Chiyuki goes back to the school to get her bag, while she is gone, Kei approaches Toya. Again Kei tells Toya to stay away, but adds that he looked into his cousin's friends. Toya attacks him, but is only stopped by Chiyuki. He attempts to drag her away, but she tries to stop him. Kei goes crazy and yells. As the struggle happens between the two, and Kei hurts his arm. Toya notices the blood and reacts. Kei gets nervous and pulls her away.
Kei traps Chiyuki in a room, tying her to the bed. Crazy... Kei returns, after a scene of a memory of him taking care of his cousin, and tells Chiyuki that Toya is only after her blood and that he's deceiving. He goes insane plotting ways of how to isolate Toya and goes to tell Chiyuki he'll protect her...
Yami flies into the room and Toya appears at the door. The two begin to fight as Yami frees Chiyuki. To stop the fighting, Chiyuki decides that she won't see Toya anymore, but it's not successful. The guys continue to fight, and Toya asks for Yami to take Chiyuki away, but she refuses. Toya collapses and Chiyuki catches him. The two escape out the window and land on the ground. Kei appears ready to kill Toya by hitting him with a rock. Chiyuki sees this and jumps in front of the rock to protect Toya.
At the hospital, Chiyuki explains she hasn't forgot about Kei, no matter if she's still friends with Toya. Later, Kei and Toya are together in a waiting room. Kei tells Toya that he can be with Chiyuki. The book ends with Chiyuki teasing Toya.
Opinion:
This is the better volume of the two. Has more of a story. Well more of an interesting story. Two "major" event happened in this story. The mansion scene and crazy Kei. Loved the concept about the time stood still within the mansion. But the last few chapters of Millennium Snow were just odd. The plot with Kei was random and creepy. Kei was obsessed over protecting Chiyuki, to the point where he tied her up to a bed! I never liked this plot of the series. It seemed pointless, but it did give more of a back story of Chiyuki and her past.
I wish the series was longer. I would love to know what would happen next with the relationship between Toya and Chiyuki. Would he eventually bite her? But the story does end in a way that could be continued or just end there.
A few of the "snows" were mini comics before the actual chapter, to introduce what's going on. For the first snow, there was a little comic about how the trio packs for the trip. Another short drawing was of the trio shopping. They are cute introductions.
But I would say it's a cutesy manga for the gushy romantic. Those who already love Bisco Hatori and her other series would love this series. Definitely for fans of vampires and werewolves.
